Explore the history of Magic, Occult, Fortune-telling, and the Scottish Witch Trials and the Devil.
About the Museum
Nestled within the enchanting Chalmers Close off Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile, our museum offers a magical experience like no other. Founded in February 2023, it resides in a charming 19th-century building built on the ruins of a 17th-century bishop’s cottage. With a touch of whimsy, we say the Close itself is cloaked in invisibility—blink, and you might miss it! But for those determined to find us, the magic reveals itself. The museum was born from over 15 years of passionate collecting and researching objects tied to witchcraft, magic, the occult, and fortune-telling. These treasures came from private auctions, donations, and my own folklore research within Scotland, including my Facebook group, Scottish Cunning Ways. As a lifelong admirer of the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Cornwall, I dreamed of bringing a similar space to Scotland to honor its rich and complex history of witchcraft and wise women. We proudly showcase a growing collection of magical items, many gifted by those seeking to pass on their mystical heirlooms with respect and care. Our exhibits aim to raise awareness of the European witch hunts, highlight Scotland’s unique folklore, and inspire a love for these fascinating objects and the stories they hold. Come and explore our magical world—we can’t wait to welcome you!
